- Two Reale Coin
- Grade One
This rare coin from the ATOCHA was minted in 1618. That year was a transitional year with an overlap from the PAL Assayer and the famed dyslexic Assayer of the ATOCHA Juan Ximenez de Tapia, who made many errors and reversals in his minting process. This one is no exception. Under close inspection, you can see the Assayer’s Mark T superimposed over the PAL Assayer’s Mark. Very Rare! The obverse features the royal shield and crown of Phillip the third of Spain. The mint mark P is to the left with the T/PAL Assayer’s Mark below. The denomination in Roman numerals II Is to the right. The reverse features the crusaders cross with lions and castles. The full Second 1 of the date 1618 and 2/3 of the 8 are visible in the upper left quadrant. This coin would appraise at a minimum of $5950 at the museum in Key West. It also was part of the great napkin deal of the ATOCHA where Mel Fisher and an investor signed a contract on a bar napkins so I’m told and had it witnessed by barmaid. Another one of those treasure legends. You will receive a flyer explaining the napkin deal info along with the ATOCHA certificate of authenticity. This coin is very rare and guaranteed genuine.
