- Eight Reale Coin
- Grade One
This very nice Spanish Cob was omitted at the Mexico City Mint During the reign of Philip III of Spain, 1598 to 1621. It has the moderately crude strike that many clients from Mexico showed at that time. The obverse features the Royal Shield and Crown of Spain. The reverse features the Beautiful Florenzada Cross unique to the Mexico City Mint. The coin is mounted in a 14K flat wire bezel with a 14K Bale at the top. This coin was part of the original “Great Napkin Deal” of the Atocha where Mel gave up two complete chests of coins from the ATOCHA in a deal which was signed on a bar napkin and witness spot a barmaid. A letter accompanies this genuine coin from that famous rec, as well as a certificate of authenticity. Grade one eight reales retail for $3200 and up at the museum in Key West, and that is with no bezel at all.
