- Four Reale Coin
- Grade Two
This rare coin was invented at the Potosi Mint by Juan Ballesteros, the famous B Assayer in the mid to late 1580s. Under normal circumstances, especially with modern grading, this should be a grade one coin. As such it would sell for $6900 and much higher at the museum in Key West. If you enlarge the picture you will see a huge amount of definition on both sides of this wonderful silver piece of eight. The obverse features the Royal Shield and Crown of Phillip II of Spain. To the left of the shield is the P Mintmark. Below which is the B Assayer’s Mark. The reverse features the beautiful Crusader’s Cross with lions and castles. The coin is mounted in a 14K yellow gold bezel with a gold bale at the top. ML is the number designation given to it by James Sinclair of ATOCHA, Titanic, expedition Unknown, and recently Cooper’s Treasure fame. Jim has worked as the marine archaeologist on the ATOCHA since 1980. The coin is guaranteed absolutely genuine. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
