- Two Reale Coin
This beautiful silver piece of eight was minted at the Potosi Mint by Assayer Juan Ballesteros between 1580 and 1596. Coins by this Assayer command a serious premium at the Fisher Museum in Key West. The obverse features the Royal Shield and Crown of Spain with the Mintmark P to the left and the B Assayer’s Mark below. The denomination is in Roman numerals II to the right. The reverse features the Crusader’s Cross with lions and castles. The coin is mounted in a heavy 14K yellow gold bezel with a gold boat shackle at the top. The coin alone would appraise at $6900 and up at the museum in Key West, and that is with no bezel at all. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and has guarantee genuine from this great shipwreck Atocha.
