Genuine Atocha Grade One Four Reale. This coin was minted at the Potosi Mint during the reign of Phillip III of Spain. The obverse features the Royal Shield and Crown of Spain wit the Mintmark P to the left. The Assayer's Mark T  is below. Tapia was known for his many errors and reversals in is minting process. This coin has a very rare reversed four in the denomination, this is the only one  I have seen in 40 years from this assayer, and it is missing from my extensive error  collection from the approximately 30,000 coins from the Atocha  I have owned. .  The  reverse features the Crusaders Cross with lions and castles. Grade one four reales of Phillip III sell at the museum in Key West for $4200 and up with no bezel. Dated and rare  coins bring  a far higher premium ,up to  $5950, and again with no bezel. This silver Piece of Eight weighs 12.66  grams, with  almost no sea wear after 363 years under water. The coin was found in the  year of 1986, the Motherlode year . It is accompanied by  the new Mel Fisher/Treasure Salvors certificate of Authenticity with hologram and seal, and is guaranteed genuine. this is our 40th year as Atocha specialists.
