The first time I owned this wonderful and scarce Mexican Two Reale from the Atocha I sold it for $495 in 1992. 29 years later times sure have changed. Hard to believe this is my 42 year in the Atocha business. This coin is one of the scarcer ones because it was minted in Mexico City instead of Potosi. It is a grade two, meaning that it does have a bit of sea wear. The obverse bears the royal shield and crown of Philip III of Spain, 1598-1621. To the left is the oM Mintmark. The reverse features the beautiful Florenzada Cross with lions and castles unique to the Mexico City Mint. The coin is mounted and a wonderful three dimensional 14 karat gold anchor and rope chain bezel, One of the most popular styles of the last 42 years that I have done. It is accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity as issued by Treasure Salvors, Inc. in 1987. Grade 2 two reales were selling at the Fishers in Key West for $3600 six months ago with no bezel, and this has a great bezel. They have gone up considerably with the anticipation of the 400th anniversary of the sinking of the Atocha. This coin with no bezel is valued at right now just over $5000. Don’t miss the opportunity to own this fantastic genuine piece of Atocha treasure at it's old price. When the anniversary comes you wont be able to find them this cheap. Only $3495.
