This beautiful gold two escudo was minted at the Seville Mint by Assayer G around 1619. The certificate that accompanies the coin was issued by famed Captain Carl Fismer. The obverse bears the royal shield and crown of Phillip III of Spain. The mint mark S is to the left with the Assayer’s Mark G below. The reverse bares the Catholic cross of Spain with fleur-de-lis. Gold coins like this were found on the famous Spanish galleon Atocha which sank off Key West 400 years ago this year. If this particular coin was from the Atocha it would be a $75-$85,000 coin. It is not from the Atocha and much less expensive. A beautiful heavy 14 karat gold bezel surrounds the coin. A certificate of authenticity signed by world-famous captain Carl Fismer accompanies the coin. It is guaranteed authentic.
