The Capitana Wreck of 1641 is one of the most famous Spanish Galleon Shipwrecks in history. It sank off the coast of Hispaniola (the Dominican Republic and Haiti) in 1641. It was salvaged by my friend Burt Webber. They found thousands of primarily silver cobs. and some incredible and historical artifacts. This is one of the finer coins from this wreck in this denomination. It was minted at the Me4xico City Mint by Assayer D between 1618 and 1634. The obverse bears the royal shield and crown of Phillip IIII of Spain, with the oM Mintmark and the D Assayer's Mark are to the left. The denomination in Roman numerals II is to the right. The reverse features the Florenzada Cross unique to Mexico. This silver Piece of Eight is mounted in a 14kt. yellow gold bezel with a boat shackle at the top. The coin is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and is guaranteed to be genuine. It is about the size of a US Quarter.
