Great Mexican Four reale from the 1739 shipwreck of the Rooswijk. The Rooswijk was a Dutch East Indiaman which was in route to the Indies when it sank on the Goodwin Sands off the coast of England. It had cargo and coins from Mexico with which to purchase goods to take back to the Netherlands. The obverse bears the royal shield and crown of Philip V of Spain. To the left is the oM Mintmark and the R Assayer’s Mark. The reverse features the Florenzada Cross with lions and castles unique to Mexico. Dated coins from this are rare. The original salvors certificate of authenticity is included
