The Consolacion Galleon was attacked by pirates near the Isla de Muerto (of Pirates of the Caribbean fame) off the coast of Ecuador in 1681. The pirates eventually murdered all 345 people on the Consolacion, but were unable to recover the treasure. This is one of the few real silver Pieces of Eight that had anything to do with pirates, although many that don't say they do. The coin is an eight reale minted at the Potosi Mint by the E Assayer in 1671. The date appears at the bottom of the tic-tac-toe design. The date appears as a 61. The 7 was not struck, but appears as a shadow to the right of the one. The reverse features the Crusader's Cross with lions and castles, with the date appearing at the bottom. The coins from this famous pirate wreck show sea wear, and are quite scarce, This Spanish Treasure Coin is genuine as described, and is accompanied by a photo Certificate of Authenticity. (This is a bit bigger than a US Half Dollar)
